If you have never been to a carnival and if you have never been to Nice, attending the Nice Carnival at the end of February-beginning of March might be a great opportunity to combine the two.
Being in Nice during the time of Carnival is like being at a never-ending party - the streets are filled with people wearing costumes, children and adults spraying each other with silly string, street vendours offering regular carnival fare - masks, funny hats, confetti, etc. Each day offers a different kind of the carnival parade - the Battle of the Flowers, Carnival and lights, you name it. The level of excitement is running high, and one is often looking forward to finishing the day in the Old Town having a quiet dinner and drinking rose.
